When something's wrong,
we'll tell you what.
A proper koi health visit isn't a glance and a guess. It's a methodical exam — water chemistry, behavior, body condition, and hands-on diagnostics when needed — followed by a typed report with a real treatment plan.
koi disease
Trust the "something's off" feeling.
Most serious koi illnesses are caught by owners who noticed a small change before it became a crisis. If any of these describe what you're seeing, it's time.
Behavior changes
Clamped fins, hiding, listless swimming, jumping, or sudden personality shifts.
Appearance
Visible spots, ulcers, missing scales, fin damage, or color changes you can't explain.
Appetite
Refusing food, eating less than usual, or spitting food back out.
Breathing
Gasping at the surface, rapid gill movement, or hovering near the waterfall.
Multiple fish affected
Anything spreading through your collection — almost always urgent, regardless of symptom.
Just doesn't seem right
You know your koi. If your gut says something's off, that's reason enough to call.
One sick fish, caught early, is a routine visit. That same fish ignored for two weeks becomes a much harder problem.
What actually happens.
A health visit follows a deliberate sequence — gentle first, deeper only when necessary. Most assessments don't require any handling of your fish at all.
Full chemistry panel — ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, alkalinity, hardness. We rule out water as the cause before we look at the fish, because nine times out of ten it tells the story.
Always IncludedPond-side observation of every koi — body condition, finnage, breathing rate, swimming pattern, behavior. We document anything that stands out without ever touching a fish.
Always IncludedIf something needs a closer look, we'll net the affected fish into a soft bowl and examine it directly — skin, gills, fins, body condition. Quick, calm, low-stress for the koi.
If NeededMicroscope analysis of mucus, gill clips, or skin scrapes when symptoms point to parasites or infection. We diagnose what's actually there rather than guessing at treatments.
If Needed
A typed report.
In your inbox.
Most pond services leave you with verbal advice you've half-forgotten by dinner. We send a written diagnosis and treatment plan — typed, organized, and saved in your inbox for reference.
Refer back to it next week. Forward it to your spouse. Pull it up two years from now when something similar happens. It's yours.
- Water chemistry results, with context for what's healthy
- Observations from the visual and hands-on exam
- Diagnosis — what's wrong, how confident we are, why
- Treatment plan with specific products, dosages, and timeline
- What to watch for, and when to call us back
The medicine cabinet,
already stocked.
If your koi need treatment, you don't have to chase down salt, antibiotics, or parasite medications across three websites. We carry everything we recommend, on-site.
The visit fee covers the diagnosis and report. Any medications, water treatments, or supplies are charged separately at standard pricing — no surprise inclusions, no surprise omissions.
What you're wondering.
Brief, careful handling causes minimal stress when done right. We use a soft koi sock or wide bowl, work quickly, and only handle fish when the visual exam can't answer the question. Most visits don't require any handling at all.
No. We bring the nets, bowls, and tools. Your job is to be present, point out what you've been noticing, and let us work. The whole point is to make this easier on you.
We exam the affected fish closely, but we'll also assess the pond environment and observe the rest of your collection. Most koi diseases are environmental or contagious, so treating one fish in isolation rarely solves the underlying issue.
Standard booking is through our online scheduler — typically within the week. For situations where fish health is rapidly declining, call us at (360) 991-1117 and we'll work to fit you in sooner when possible.
That's a good outcome — and you still get the typed report documenting healthy water and healthy fish, which is genuinely useful as a baseline. Knowing your pond is well is worth the visit fee on its own.
For most issues, yes — we'll start treatment on-site with whatever medications or pond treatments are appropriate.
Your koi can't tell you what's wrong. We can.
Whether it's one fish or your whole pond, a real diagnostic visit beats guessing every time. Book online, or call if you'd rather talk it through first.
