Be sure and take care of your koi in the weeks ahead as there will be a warm up. Here is a good spring time habit that we have found that works!!

1. Salt your pond to .03% (three pounds of salt per 100 gallons of pond water). Do this anytime before the water warms too much. There is alot of reasons to do this and they are very benifical. Get a test kit if you need to.

2. Use praziquental (Prazi) to eliminate Flukes in the water that may be lingering in the water waiting for the warmer weather. These are known as the scouge of our hobby. You want to rid flukes before they become "alive". Prazi will do that. These problems are introduced to your pond from birds, toad, frogs, salamanders and anything else that can go from one water source to another.

3. Have medicated koi food on hand. If you notice ulcers or open wounds start feeding this as soon as you can. Water temp should be around 60 degrees of more for the best effect. We know the water will not be this warm for some time. You do not want to try to find Medicated food when you need it. Best to have it on hand!
